Celebrating Fair Trade Month

October is a very special month to the fair trade community as we celebrate Fair Trade Month. The annual celebration raises awareness about the importance of the fair trade movement to our global economy as well as promotes buying from businesses that are committed to fair trade in place of those which may harm the environment, the economy, communities, and disadvantaged individuals.

Fair Trade Month was originally started by the Fair Trade Federation, celebrating their 25th Anniversary next year. “The Fair Trade Federation is the trade association that strengthens and promotes North American organizations fully committed to fair trade. The Federation is part of the global fair trade movement, building equitable and sustainable trading partnerships and creating opportunities to alleviate poverty.”

Here at Fashion & Compassion, we are extremely passionate about the opportunity Fair Trade provides to the artisans that we work with in Charlotte and around the globe. We are grateful we can elevate their incredible skills while giving them a fair living wage and connecting them to a community of women that lift their spirits every day.

Some of our fair trade projects include our eco-friendly Hope Collection made by Human Trafficking Survivors in Ecuador, our Dignity Collection of paper bead jewelry made by war-displaced women in Uganda, and many more. Our goals in employing fair trade practices at Fashion & Compassion are to help our artisan teams succeed in upward economic mobility along with building cross-cultural communities, where women can feel supported and loved.

We ask you to celebrate Fair Trade Month by seeking fair trade products. On top of our handmade jewelry and accessories, everyday fair trade household items such as baskets and coffee, and more are easy to find on our website.

Support the dignity and growth of others this month by shopping Fair Trade. Use the code “FAIRTRADE20” for 20% off items in our Dignity and Hope Collections.
